Rainy Day: Best Student Film at Warsaw Glitch 2026
Rainy Day, directed by Hue Zhan from Hong Kong, is the winner of Best Student Film at the Ground Zero Edition. The film also took third place in Best Sound.
Rainy Day is difficult to classify by design: part psychological thriller, part experimental horror, part anime and part surreal descent into a fractured reality. A traumatised young woman begins noticing impossible figures, voices and recordings that seem to predict her movements before they happen. As reality starts slipping apart, she is forced to confront whether she is being hunted by something supernatural or by a buried memory she was never meant to survive.
The jury recognised the film for its distinctive visual language, unsettling atmosphere and willingness to experiment with genre, sound and narrative structure. For a student production, Rainy Day showed a bold creative identity and a strong understanding of how image, silence, tension and ambiguity can work together. Honorable mentions in the category went to Antares (directed by Cristiana Apostol, Romania) and Protocol Breach (directed by Sylwester Rybczyk, Poland), both impressive works from first-time AI filmmakers combining generative tools with traditional CGI.
