American director and screenwriter, a New York University film school graduate who has worked for three decades with his producing partner Eric Manes. In 2004 he directed Voices of Iraq: instead of sending a crew, the production put 150 digital cameras into the hands of Iraqis during the war and let them film their own lives. MovieMaker Magazine called it a genuinely groundbreaking work, in method as much as in content; it went to cinemas across the United States and to Edinburgh, Locarno and Melbourne. He also created and executive-produced MTV's Fear, one of the first shows to hand the camera to its participants, and directed Campfire Tales for New Line Cinema. He has written and developed for Warner Bros., Paramount, 20th Century Fox, CBS and NBC, and was brought in by Disney and Shanghai Media Group to build film franchises for the Chinese and global market. Currently, he is directing a historical feature film where all the characters and 50% of the content are recreated with generative AI.
