iiyama has been making monitors since the early 1970s, when it started out in the Japanese town whose name it carries. The ProLite line covers professional and business displays, including large-format screens, while G-Master handles gaming across three families: Red Eagle, Black Hawk and Gold Phoenix. For anyone grading, editing or judging a shot, the monitor is the last honest witness in the pipeline: whatever the model generated, this is where you find out what it actually looks like. The company was founded in the early 1970s as Iiyama Electric Corporation by the 23-year-old bank employee Kazuro Katsuyama, in the city of Iiyama in Nagano Prefecture, and began with television boards and substrates for Mitsubishi. It moved on to black-and-white televisions in 1976 and colour sets in 1979, and put computer monitors under its own brand from 1981, which became its main product. It entered the Western market in 1987, opened offices in several European countries including Poland, and released its first LCD monitors in 1997. Since 2006 the brand has belonged to the Japanese group MCJ, today as a brand of Mouse Computer, and its head office for Europe is in the Netherlands.
