Atlas of Small Things

In a cabin on the shore of Lake Superior, Walter keeps an atlas nobody has ever read. It lives in drawers: pebbles, seeds, buttons, grains of sand, each with a date and a place written on the label in pencil.

His daughter arrives to move him into care and has one weekend to decide what goes. She has done this kind of clearing before, for her mother, and she is good at it.

Walter offers her a deal. She can throw away anything she likes, as much as she likes, on one condition: she has to hear its story first.

Macro lenses, warm wood, rain on a window. The film is about memory, but more precisely it is about attention, and about how long it takes to empty a house when everything in it is evidence.
