The Howl

The title is borrowed from Allen Ginsberg's poem. The film moves through the nocturnal tissue of a city where the social organism no longer functions as a whole, only as the sum of separated circuits. People occupy the same space without occupying any position in relation to one another. Physical proximity signifies no relation here; it is purely a matter of coordinates. Ginsberg built his lament out of enumeration — its force lay in the fact that there was someone worth enumerating, and a community on whose behalf the voice spoke. Here enumeration is no longer possible. What remains are figures without names, episodes without resolution, movement without destination. A postcard from a city that exists nowhere beyond the limits of imagination.
